Qiqi baked her first biscuit : Mar-09

After obtaining a chocolate chip cookie recipe from her friend, she has been making plans for the past week, to bake her cookies.
From asking around on what is vanilla essence, to finding out where she could get her missing baking ingredients, and even confirming time and again our family's itinerary for the weekend, she has decided to use my mum's kitchen with Tini's help instead of her Ah Mah's kitchen.
To make sure her father will taste her cookies, she even substituted the butter with margarine!

Though she could surely improve in the cookies' looks department, they are pretty tasty and edible as a fiirst -timer definitely!!

Science Centre Trip : Mar-09

The gals always enjoyed going to the science centre where there are always so many things for them to "vandalize". This time is En'en's first time to the science centre and Papa & Mama also joined us. En'en has a great time with the amount of space she can run about.

HIPS Kindness Cheer 2009 Preliminary : Mar-09

This year, Qiqi is participating in the Kindness Cheer for Holy Innocent Primary School. They had their preliminary round at Potong Pasir CC and we were there to give her our fullest support. Comparing to the rest of the teams, I would say HIPS performed pretty well and thought they were quite likely to make it to the next round. Following the competition, Qiqi also attended an interview session, she reacted quite awkwardly, probably she was nervous and shy in front of the BIG camera and spotlights.

En'en and her big eyes : Mar-09

One good thing about our gals is they've all adopted their mummy's BIG eyes with double eyelids. Just wondering how they do that? If one of them would have my small and single eyelid, she would definitely blame me of that... phew... :P

Mama's Birthday : Mar-09

This is Mama's birthday but En'en is happier than anyone of us to see the birthday cake and able to sing the birthday song. It is Mama's 62th birthday, and also marks her retirement day... well at least we are happy that she is making good use of her retirement time, like going for a morning walk, line-dancing, watching & learning cooking programs and also planning to take up courses to improve herself. She has done so much for the family, it's only fair for her to have a great retirement now.

A visit to Senoko Fishery Port : Mar-09

It was 4am when Jiun called me on my hand phone to wake me up for our planned trip to the Senoko Fishery Port. Surprisingly, I was able to wake the gals up without much effort and in less than 15 mins, they were ready to set off to the port. We traveled for less than 30 mins to reach the destination and when I was stopping the car to exchanged for a visit pass into the place, we could already smell FISH in our car! We were amused on the triumph of fish trading at the place, although Qiqi initially had some 'adoption' problem into the new environment. There were all kinds of fishes everywhere, and we actually got some problem in deciding what to buy. Eventually, we got hold of two fishes, a red groupa and a threadfin... looking at the picture you may think the red groupa seems to be small, but it's actually already slightly more than a kg! The price of the threadfin was almost 50% cheaper than the market.... but poor Tini will have some good fun scaling them before they could reach us on the dining table.

We finished 'shopping' at about 5.30 am and we headed to the famous Jalan Kayu Prata shop for breakfast. The pratas were pretty tasty, and we also bought some back to "bribe" Tini... :-)

Mummy is the Strongest : Mar-09

Last Wednesday must be the day I chanted the most daimoku in a day in my life. Mummy was due to remove her entire left breast and lymph nodes that morning, but was told that her operation has been postponed to the afternoon upon arrival to the hospital at 7am.

Prior to that, I have been chanting hard that Mummy can somehow miraculously recover without the op. I reckon that if it's her karma that causes her breast cancer, if I can chant to successfully transform her karma before the op, the breast cancer would no longer have a role in her life and she will recover. I must have underestimated Mummy's karma, or my efforts & determination were simply not laborious or tenacious enough to accomplish the task. Even though Mummy's op was postponed, she underwent the breast and lymph nodes removal operation eventually. The postponed op definitely offered me more time to chant more for Mummy.

Mummy did not announce her sickness to everyone. When she did tell, some thought she was joking, and yet some preferred to believe that she had struck the Singapore Pools' Toto instead of striking cancer a fourth time. Many had offered to come to her place to chant together with her upon hearing the news, but she gently declined, preferring them to chant for her in their respective homes. We as family had gathered a few times to chant together with Mummy at home. I don't remember another occasion where we all gathered to chant together as family.. must be Ah Jia's funeral.

Fair and frail as Mummy may look, she is much much tougher than most people I dare say. She tells people I am more upset than her at losing a boob, she laughs at how people were surprised over the phone at how loud and 'normal' she sounded as if they had expected to hear a feeble and can't-get-out-of-bed voice. Mummy is walking around the house and watching tv and chanting after her op. She has also taken steps to reduce the intake of the food she has so loved - coffee, sweets and milk, as obviously the cancer cells in her loved them too. We have installed an alkaline water system at home and she has been faithfully drinking that water too. Besides those, we have been and still are actively sourcing for 'ammunition' for Mummy to battle and win those naughty cancer cells. With abundant daimoku, a changed diet and high life condition, we are sure Mummy will be healthy once again soon.

We must forge on, build our stamina along the way, and not let down our guards for even a single moment. We will achieve victory for sure, as a family! Mummy is a fighter, a veteran cancer fighter who will trimph over her breast cancer no doubt about that!
http://shinykoh.blogspot.com/2008/02/mummy-testimonal-featured-in-straits.html

Mummy is chanting hard to transform her karma. At the same time, she has to assure and encourage all around her that she is fine and that we should all just chant for her. Papa is chanting very hard for Mummy too. In fact, I have never seen Papa chanting so seriously so hard and so much before. I am very touched by what I saw.. Papa who always seemed so engrossed in his own world actually chanted, and is still chanting many hours for Mummy despite having to go to school early in the morning and returning only in the evenings.

The detailed report of Mummy's removed tissues will only be out in 2 weeks, but the surgeon has told us that Mummy's followup treatment would be chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy as more than four of Mummy's removed lymph nodes had cancerous cells.

We are now chanting
  • that Mummy must maintain her strong life force and high life condition
  • to transform Mummy's karma,
  • to thoroughly defeat and trimph over the cancer
  • for Gohonzon to arrange the most suitable treatment for Mummy

Update on papaya tree : Mar-09

http://shinykoh.blogspot.com/search?q=papaya

It has been more than 1/2 a year since we last updated on the papaya tree we planted at Mummy's place. It has grown almost double to height of Xuan Xuan now and meanwhile, it's busy bearing two papaya fruits. Hopefully in another 1/2 year we will have the chance to taste it's fruit... :-)

En'en putting on the 'super' pacifier : Mar-09

En'en does not have the habit of using a pacifier, however a couple of days ago, she's having some teething problems and badly wanted something to bite on. Desperately, I was only able to find this hilarious pacifier and it managed to calm her down a while. I could still remember Ah Hong had bought this for Xuan Xuan who really could enjoy the pacifier for a long time. Let's compare both for them on having this pacficer, ok?
