Haw Par Villa : Sep-16

Since childhood, I was always told that there were only two popular places of interest in Singapore in the early 60s, 70s.  One was the botanic gardens and the other was Haw Par Villa. Indeed, when I looked back on my childhood photos, these two places seemed to set the background scenes in several of the photos.

It must been at least a decade since the family went to Haw Par Villa together, En'en was 9 now and she had never been there before. During the Chinese seventh month, En'en had been pestering me to bring her there, but her yeye was not so encouraging since it was the hungry ghost festival.  The popular ten worlds of hell in Haw Par Villa was probably the key to the old superstition that spirits would wonder around that area during the seventh month.  As a result, we pushed back our visit after that month and on the teacher day when there was no schooling, we went to visit this almost 90 year old place of interest.

The sun was bright and sunny with nice blue skies for us to take many beautiful photos.  Many statuses there still brought back good memories.  Seriously, it would be a pity if this place would be removed. I would really hope the tourism board to do their utmost to preserve it, it was really difficult nowadays to find such place of interest which tried to teach us good moral values of lives.
