Support buddy in Muay Thai competition : May-19

At my age, I would not have imagined going into the ring to spar with anyone.  Ok, in fact even when I was younger, I probably would not have done that too.  Personally, I thought such contact sports was dangerous and sometimes caused unnecessary harm to a perfectly healthy person.  Nevertheless, there would be people who were very passionate about 'fighting', and Boon Leong was one buddy I knew who was like that since young.  So at the age of 48, he still bravely embraced this contact sports and trained himself well for a 'Muay Thai fight' with the much younger one competitor (31 yo).  Last weekend, we went and supported him in a competition, it was not particularly pleasant to watch him kind of struggle during the fight but it was still very admirable and proud of him to be able to do such this at his age.  It was a truly inspirational fight which won him the best sportsmanship of that night!

Mount Faber walk : May-19

This was the second hike which we went during a public holiday this year.  This time to Mount Faber, it was a short and rainy walk but the scenery was amazing.  The funny thing was Shin Yang seemed to have remembered this walk during her younger days, but to "Mount Fuji" instead of Mount Faber. :-)

Achieving 2019 swimming target : May-19

This year, I had set to achieve under 25mins to complete 20 laps of swimming, a minute less from last year.  On top of my regular swimming sessions, I had tried to build on a bit of muscles strength and also, engage Yen Hun to help to improve my strokes.  All these paid back sweetly, and I made it under 25 mins on 15-May.

Tree Top walk : May-19

Several years ago, Shin Yang and myself hike to the Tree Top Walk but unfortunately it was closed on that day.  On May day early morning, Shin Yang suggested that we went for another hike to the Tree Top Walk and so, off we went.

It was a good 2.5km walk to the bridge and this time, the bridge was opened but there was a long queue of people waiting to cross the bridge.  We waited for about 30 minutes before our turn arrived. Finally we made it to the Tree Top!

We also met Jeffrey and family on our way back.

Rare reunion with Mr Leow : May-19

After Mr Leow left NYJC many year back, all of us had lost contact with him.  As such, it was a rare coincidence to be able to meet up with Mr Leow after almost 30 years.

Unluckily he met an accident recently which left him with a fractured arm, but the good side about this was some NYJC alumni visited him and posted on his FB which gave us the lead to be able to catch up with him again.
Mr Leow was instrumental in building up NYJC pugilistic society during my college days.  Our society was at the verge of closing down until he took over and guided us how to market and revive it.  We subsequently were able to recruit a healthy number of members into the society and also put on several great performance with his assistance, like the Pugilistic Night and SYF.  Mr Leow was a committed and yet fun teacher in charge too, bring many of us to our first school oversea trips like Malaysia and Thailand.
Despite at the age of 78, he still remembered most of us and we joyously chat for almost 2 hours before returning him to rest.  He would probably the teacher whom many of us respect a great deal and we hoped to continue to keep in touch with him despite the fact that he still did not have a handphone until today.

My May 3rd 2019 Commemorative Meeting : May-2019

5.3 is always a significant date for Soka and SSA. It’s always celebrated in a commemorative meeting which typically only involves the more senior leaders, but bcoz May is also the month Soka celebrates her Mother’s Day, all district WD leaders are also invited to attend it in May.

I can still remember how I didn’t think much of Soka’s commemorative meetings.. until one time Mummy said something to the effect of please wear something nice and we shall take a picture together after the meeting!! Okay, I did juz that, and Mummy, Jiun and I managed to take a really nice picture!!

That was about the only picture we took at such an occasion. The following year, Mummy left us.

Maybe i did it to remember Mummy by, maybe I did it to reduce the significant void I feel at such meetings when I miss Mummy, maybe I did it juz to create memories.. but I always try to dress up now, even if it’s juz a teeny bit,  when I attend Soka commemorative meetings. And after the meetings, I would want to gather buddies or a faith comrade to take at least one picture..

Hahaa.. now my buddies have caught on my antic!! We posted in the exact same manner as last year’s picture, but with the addition of a new member—Sharon’s shakubuku & newly-minted WD district leader, Mui Kiang!! 🤗
